Yuan Ze University Partnered with Microsoft to Host a Copilot Hands-on Workshop, Leading New Trends in EMI Bilingual Education

Driven by the rapid advancement of generative AI and its impact on educational innovation, the Bilingual Education Promotion Resource Center of the College of Management at Yuan Ze University hosted a hands-on workshop titled “AI-Empowered New Opportunities for EMI Bilingual Teaching” on April 16. The event specially invited Man-Chen Wang, Education Business Manager of the Public Sector Group at Microsoft Taiwan, to lead the workshop.

The session attracted many faculty members interested in enhancing bilingual teaching, who gathered to explore how AI tools could lower language barriers and enhance the effectiveness of bilingual education through a new form of bilingual competency integrating AI + EMI.

Distinct from theory-based instruction, the workshop emphasized practical application. During the pre-class preparation stage, instructors learned how to use Copilot Chat to quickly organize teaching materials and construct comprehensive EMI course outlines and lecture scripts, significantly reducing the burden of preparing courses taught entirely in English.

In the in-class interaction segment, the instructor demonstrated how Microsoft Teams’ real-time captioning and translation features could effectively bridge language gaps between teachers and students, alleviating communication anxiety in the classroom. Furthermore, in the area of post-class assessment and tutoring, the workshop showcased how AI Agents could be used to intelligently generate assessment questions, optimizing the entire teaching cycle from preparation to evaluation.

Notably, over 90% of the tools demonstrated during the workshop were already included in the university’s existing Microsoft 365 (M365) licensed environment. This approach aimed to ensure that technology could be practically implemented in classrooms. It meant that faculty members only needed to master appropriate prompting techniques and operational logic to activate AI support in bilingual teaching, streamline tasks such as language polishing, and focus more fully on knowledge delivery and teacher–student interaction.

Since being selected in 2024 for the Ministry of Education’s Bilingual Education for Students in Higher Education (BEST Program) as a benchmark project in the social sciences field, the College of Management at Yuan Ze University had become the only college of management among private universities in northern Taiwan to receive this honor. Standing alongside nine leading institutions, including National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University and National Central University, this achievement highlighted the College’s long-term commitment and outstanding accomplishments in promoting bilingual education and an internationalized learning environment, marking a new milestone in bilingual education development.

Vice President Chiu-Ling Lu, who led Yuan Ze University’s EMI bilingual initiatives, pointed out that to stay aligned with global trends, the University had actively integrated AI empowerment into EMI teaching across the board. Drawing on her own experience of using AI tools to optimize international correspondence, she noted that AI was capable of accurately grasping meaning and significantly enhancing administrative and teaching efficiency. She expressed her expectation that the deep integration of EMI and AI would enable both faculty and students to stay ahead of technological trends and allow Yuan Ze University to maintain its leading position in internationalized education.

Min-Ping Huang, Dean of the College of Management, stated that with the College’s recognition as an EMI Bilingual Benchmark College, its bilingual education had entered a new stage of advancement, to become a professional business and management college with global influence. The College not only provided Taiwanese students with a high-quality bilingual learning environment but also served as a bridge connecting Taiwan to the world. To realize the vision of “EMI Bilingual Education + AI Empowerment,” the College has launched a variety of AI-focused innovative programs at both undergraduate and master’s levels, covering key areas such as Intelligent Finance and Investment, Financial Technology, and AI Applications and the Future of Business.

Beginning in the 2026 academic year, the College further planned to incorporate AI literacy into required freshman courses, ensuring that every student would acquire essential digital skills at the very start of their university education. This initiative aimed to transform AI into a core driving force for bilingual learning and empower students to excel on the global stage.

With the support of the Ministry of Education’s bilingual benchmark program in the social sciences, the College of Management continued to deepen faculty development in bilingual teaching while placing students at the center of its efforts. By enhancing students’ ability to use AI to strengthen bilingual competence, the College sought to cultivate global mobility and future career competitiveness. The success of this workshop signified a crucial step forward for Yuan Ze University in the field of AI-empowered bilingual education, reaffirming its commitment to building a forward-looking and immersive EMI learning environment.
