Economics Expert Dr. Chuan Wang Joined Yuan Ze University’s College of Management Strengthening Research Capacity in Sustainability and Efficiency

Yuan Ze University’s College of Management welcomed a new faculty member, Dr. Chuan Wang, an expert in the field of economics, who joined the college to contribute to teaching and research.

Dr. Wang held a Ph.D. in Economics from Monash University, Australia, and brought with him extensive academic and industry experience. His research interests included productivity and efficiency analysis, Bayesian econometrics, applications of machine learning, and environmental economics. He had long focused on the impact of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) policies on corporate productivity, striving to apply research results to real-world industrial challenges and promote sustainable development.

Dr. Wang stated that he chose to join Yuan Ze because of its excellent research resources and vibrant interdisciplinary collaboration environment. It not only deepened academic inquiry but also provided rich opportunities to engage with the industry. He looked forward to advancing more industry collaborations at Yuan Ze, aiming to ensure that academic research truly served society and created value.

In research, Dr. Wang concentrated on using econometrics and machine learning techniques to examine corporate and industry productivity and drivers of economic growth. He paid particular attention to the profitability of financial institutions, ESG as a key factor in productivity, and the macroeconomic impact of climate change. His work aimed to build a bridge between data and economic policy, offering a practical foundation for policymaking and management.

In teaching, Dr. Wang taught core courses such as “International Financial Management,” “Econometrics,” and “Financial Institutions and Markets.” He also expressed his intention to develop new courses such as “Fintech and Data Analytics” to help students cultivate critical skills for the data-driven era of financial technology.

Dr. Wang encouraged students to actively develop critical thinking, data analysis skills, and interdisciplinary integration abilities. Through participating in research, internships, and industry-academic projects, students could apply classroom knowledge to real-world problems. He noted that embracing tools like Python, R, and machine learning would be a vital competitive edge in the future job market.

Dr. Wang shared that he had learned the accordion during childhood, and although he had not played it for many years, the experience taught him that mastering any skill required long-term accumulation and continuous practice. He believed the same applied to economics and data science—only through persistent exploration and application could their true value be realized.

Dr. Wang summarized his academic and life philosophy in three words: Curiosity, Practicality, and Innovation.” He mentioned that if given the chance, he would like to have dinner with Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, to discuss how Musk continuously innovates across different industries and to learn about his decision-making logic and risk management mindset.

Finally, Dr. Wang left students with one guiding thought: Learning is not just for exams—it is for giving yourself more choices in life.”He believed that with solid skills and strong thinking, students would have a future full of limitless possibilities.

As for an alternative career? Dr. Wang laughed and said he might have joined the Australian Defence Force to become a fighter pilot. After all, both academic research and flying missions required precision in data analysis, decision-making, and focus—different fields, but with striking similarities.
