The Ministry of Education held the “Together for a Better Future” Companion Program Joint Exhibition at Huashan Creative Park, showcasing the achievements of three major education programs: Digital Companion, International Companion, and Bilingual Learning Companion. Among them, the “Bilingual Learning Companion Program” implemented by Yuan Ze University in collaboration with Happy Elementary School in Taoyuan stood out.
or for the first time, the elementary school students stepped onto a national performance stage and delivered a remarkable performance that received an enthusiastic response from the audience.
Since 2022, Yuan Ze University has received a subsidy of NT$10.1 million from the Ministry of Education to promote the Bilingual Learning Companion Program. The program supported seven elementary schools in Taoyuan in enhancing students’ English learning abilities. Through online teaching and immersive learning activities led by university companions, the program provided elementary school companions with continuous and systematic support for English learning. Its implementation was highly praised by teachers and parents at partner schools.
Professor Yu-Lan Huang, the program leader, noted that the elementary students received intensive training through the "Drama & English Camp" organized by the Yuan Ze team before the exhibition. With fluent English and expressive acting, they portrayed various animal characters, conveying the instincts of animals and integrating environmental themes to promote forest conservation and the protection of wildlife habitats. She said, "In preparing this drama, we went through a journey of companionship that ignited the students’ passion and imagination for the future. It was more than an educational achievement—it was a breakthrough and progression in their lives."
Chu-Ling Liu, a university companion from Yuan Ze University, was also invited to share her experience. She observed a significant improvement in the students’ language abilities and self-expression during the teaching process. The university companions gained valuable teaching experience and built strong bonds with their elementary partners. This connection went beyond teaching and learning, fostering deep care and companionship.
Yu-Chung Lin, the principal of Happy Elementary School, expressed heartfelt thanks to Yuan Ze University. He said that thanks to the devoted involvement of the university’s teachers and students in online teaching, children in rural areas had the chance to access quality learning opportunities. It was not only the delivery of educational resources but also nourishment for the soul. This national stage performance in English drama not only broadened students’ learning horizons but also boosted their confidence and interest in English expression, lighting the path for them to face future challenges with courage.
