Yuan Ze University Advanced into the Top 500 Worldwide in Three Disciplines in THE Rankings

Times Higher Education (THE) announced the latest 2026 World University Subject Rankings on January 21. Yuan Ze University delivered an outstanding performance, with three major subject areas — Business & Economics, Computer Science, and Engineering — all ranking among the world’s top 500.

The results showed that Yuan Ze University’s teaching and research strengths had gained international recognition. Among them, the Business & Economics and Computer Science fields both ranked first in Taiwan in the “International Outlook” indicator, reflecting the university’s strong achievements in international faculty recruitment, cross-border research collaboration, and international student composition.

The World University Subject Rankings were based on 18 indicators across five major dimensions: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry collaboration, and international outlook. They were regarded as one of the most influential global university ranking systems. Yuan Ze University’s simultaneous recognition across several key disciplines demonstrated solid foundations and strong performance in interdisciplinary teaching, research capacity, and global engagement.

President Ching-Jung Liao stated that Yuan Ze University had received the QS Asia-Pacific Global Engagement – Performance Improvement Award at the end of the previous year. In the latest THE subject rankings, not only did three major disciplines enter the global top 500, but Business & Economics and Computer Science also ranked first in Taiwan for international outlook. Recognition from two major global ranking organizations reflected the long-term results of the university’s internationalization strategy.

Yuan Ze University has comprehensively promoted bilingual education since 2002 and has actively recruited international students to build a global learning environment and campus culture. All colleges had established English-taught bachelor’s programs, and the university had founded a university-level International College to integrate resources and enhance international education. In terms of international faculty hiring, the university had 41 full-time international professors, nearly all in tenured or regular-track positions, accounting for close to 14% of the total faculty — the highest proportion nationwide.

In the business field, the College of Management at Yuan Ze University was the first non-departmental professional business school in Taiwan and launched the first English-taught bachelor’s program in business in 2007. Through continued promotion of EMI instruction, dual-degree programs, international corporate internships, and cross-national research projects, it has attracted students and scholars from diverse countries and successfully built a highly internationalized learning and research environment. Beginning in 2024, the College of Management had also been selected as a benchmark college under the Ministry of Education’s Bilingual Education for Students in Higher Education Program, becoming the only private university college of management in northern Taiwan to receive this designation.

In the Computer Science and Engineering fields, Yuan Ze University has continued to focus on forward-looking areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, smart manufacturing, and information and communication technologies. By aligning with industry needs and strengthening interdisciplinary teaching, the university has enhanced research impact and graduate employability, securing a place on the global higher education stage. The College of Informatics and the College of Electrical and Communication Engineering have also been selected since 2024 as key cultivation colleges under the Ministry of Education’s bilingual learning program.

Yuan Ze University stated that it would continue to advance its core strategies of internationalization, interdisciplinarity, and industry–academia collaboration, further improving teaching and research quality, deepening partnerships with leading global academic institutions and industry partners, and cultivating talents with global vision and practical capabilities, moving toward the goal of becoming an internationally influential teaching and research university.
