Yuan Ze University has implemented the Professional Counseling Program for International Students Seeking Employment in Taiwan in recent years, achieving outstanding results. On November 10, Vice President Tze-Chi Hsu was invited by the Ministry of Education to attend its Achievement Presentation Forum, where he delivered a special presentation explaining how YZU had adopted professionalized and systematized counseling strategies to successfully position international-student employment outcomes as a strong admissions advantage. The university achieved the program’s targets and established itself as a model for higher education institutions in Taiwan.
Vice President Hsu pointed out that, in response to the growing number of international students and their increasing demand for employment in Taiwan, cross-unit collaboration had been the key to successful counseling outcomes. YZU established a “Full-Process Counseling System from Admission to Employment.” Although international students were dispersed across various academic departments, the College of International Studies served as the core unit while allowing participation from the entire university.
To ensure professional services, the university assigned 24 dedicated counseling and career specialists, including 15 staff members holding B1-level or above foreign language proficiency certifications and 3 possessing human resources certifications. The counseling team also comprised members from Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and other countries, enabling the university to provide culturally sensitive and high-quality support.
To strengthen international students’ workplace competitiveness, YZU actively collaborated with leading industries to design practical and industry-aligned programs. Through partnerships with TSMC, ChipMOS, Coretronic, and FarEasTone Telecommunications, the university established the Cross-Cultural Marketing and Communication Industry Program and the Applied Master’s Program in Smart Electronic Product Manufacturing. Students who completed these programs were given priority interview opportunities, significantly reducing the gap between academic learning and workplace expectations.
In addition, Chinese proficiency was regarded as a fundamental requirement for working in Taiwan. YZU required undergraduate students to complete 10 mandatory Chinese-language credits with a B1 graduation benchmark. The university also offered a 100-hour intensive Chinese enhancement program, workplace-oriented Chinese courses, and résumé-review sessions. As a result, students’ proficiency improvement rates between pre- and post-tests of the Chinese Proficiency Quick Assessment reached 80%, ensuring that they possessed sufficient language skills to transition smoothly into the workplace.
Regarding standardized career counseling, YZU established a comprehensive “Learning and Employment SOP”, covering UCAN career assessments, advisor training workshops, 10 career seminars, and 37 corporate presentations and recruitment events, which collectively attracted 372 international-student participants.
To further enhance job matching accuracy, the university developed multilingual job-search platforms such as My Future and I-Fly, available in Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean. These platforms not only provided employment-matching services but also integrated essential living information—such as ARC applications, National Health Insurance, and housing—offering international students a one-stop support system for staying in Taiwan.
Through the joint efforts of its professional counseling teams, industry collaboration, solid Chinese-language foundation training, and digital platforms, YZU effectively increased international students’ willingness to remain in Taiwan. According to the university’s employment-tracking data, 144 international graduates over the past two years chose to stay in Taiwan for job seeking, further studies, or employment.
Vice President Hsu emphasized that the program had not only built a smooth career-development pathway for international students but also contributed high-quality talent to Taiwan’s industries. The initiative successfully realized the university’s strategy of positioning “employment in Taiwan as a major admissions advantage”, reaffirming YZU’s leadership in cultivating international talent.
Yuan Ze University was honored with the QS 2025 Asia-Pacific Internationalization Performance Improvement Award, demonstrating its excellence in international education and industry engagement. Vice President Hsu concluded, “Professional counseling helped students turn their dreams into reality; staying in Taiwan allowed them to contribute new strength to the industry; and mutual international prosperity enabled our campus to continue growing sustainably.”
