Yuan Ze University actively promoted University Social Responsibility (USR). This year, the Global Cultural Initiative and Intergenerational Co-Creation of Wisdom USR teams participated in the Ministry of Education’s 2025 USR EXPO, presenting innovative practices that bridged cultures and generations, and attracting enthusiastic engagement from visitors.
The Global Cultural Initiative exhibition featured “Wings of the World,” an English audio picture book written by international students from thirteen countries. The content highlighted local customs, cuisines, and scenic landscapes, refined by professional foreign faculty and voiced with authentic narration. The project aimed to broaden global perspectives, enhance reading literacy, and foster international understanding. This year, the exhibition also included an international costume experience zone, where visitors could try on traditional attire from countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, and Mexico, offering them a direct encounter with diverse cultures. Project leader Professor Yu-Lan Huang noted, “Now in its seventh year, the initiative has not only collaborated with multiple foreign embassies and the Taoyuan Department of Education but also supported more schools in becoming bilingual institutions. By promoting international education, aesthetic courses for special education, and English learning for seniors, we continue to share Yuan Ze University’s bilingual vision and higher education resources with local communities in the spirit of social responsibility.”
The Intergenerational Co-Creation of Wisdom exhibition presented student-designed interactive technologies for elderly care centers. Among the works was “Follow My Lead,” a stretching device that used playful interaction to guide seniors in moving their arms, helping to improve health and delay disability. Project leader Professor Chu-Ching Lin explained that although the project was a relatively new USR initiative, its core values had been cultivated at YZU for many years. “The central spirit is ‘big hands holding little hands, little hands holding big hands.’ Through intergenerational collaboration, we promote senior health care, integrate digital art into rural education, and nurture interdisciplinary talent equipped with design thinking.”
Vice President Chiu-Ling Lu also attended the event and highly praised the two projects. She remarked, “It is inspiring to see our students not only learning in the classroom but also transforming their expertise into concrete solutions to social issues, while cultivating empathy and social awareness. This is the true value of USR.” She further expressed hope that more local enterprises and external resources would join in the future to advance USR initiatives and to cultivate a new generation of talent with both global vision and social responsibility.
The two projects were jointly organized by Yuan Ze University’s Center for Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility in collaboration with the respective academic units, highlighting the university’s ongoing commitment to connecting education with society.
