Students from the School of Nursing, College of Healthcare at Yuan Ze University, won third place in the university division of the 2nd National Interdisciplinary Professional English Presentation Competition in 2025. The competition, organized by the Taiwan Association of Professional English, focused on the theme of “Artificial Intelligence” and integrated developments across various disciplines. Its goal was to cultivate students’ abilities to communicate professionally in English, demonstrate interdisciplinary thinking, and apply technological knowledge.
The event attracted students from relevant departments at universities nationwide, making the competition highly competitive. Yuan Ze University’s team selected the topic “How Artificial Intelligence is Making a Big Change in the Healthcare System” and stood out among the participants.
The Nursing team approached the topic from three key perspectives: clinical care, long-term care, and community health. They explored how artificial intelligence (AI) could assist healthcare professionals in health monitoring, disease prediction, and personalized care. The team delivered their presentation in fluent English, combining professional content with real-world examples and clear visual slides showcasing AI applications in nursing practice. These included AI-assisted medication administration, image recognition systems, telehealth, and smart device applications in long-term care. The project, titled “AI Empowers Care,” combined professional depth with social concern, fully demonstrating the students’ critical thinking and international communication skills in the context of digital transformation in healthcare.
The School of Nursing had long emphasized a “Technology × Language × Nursing” integrated talent development model. Courses were designed to incorporate smart care, enabling students to approach future healthcare challenges from a cross-disciplinary perspective. Members of the award-winning team were enrolled in the “Fundamentals of Biomedical Programming” course and had undergone multiple guided simulation practices under instructor supervision. Students reflected, “This competition made us realize that English is not only a language but also a bridge for interdisciplinary communication. We hope to combine AI and humanistic care to showcase Taiwan’s innovative spirit in nursing education to the world.”
The Yuan Ze University team presented a forward-looking interpretation of the topic, emphasizing AI’s role in enhancing care quality, reducing healthcare workload, and promoting patient autonomy. Their presentation integrated clinical evidence and ethical reasoning, demonstrating professional English proficiency and interdisciplinary integration. During the competition, the team’s composed and confident demeanor, coupled with natural and fluent oral delivery, successfully attracted the attention of judges and the audience, leading them to stand out and win third place.
Ying-Hua Su, Chair of the School of Nursing, stated that the students’ success in their first competition, delivering a professional English presentation and winning third place, showed that nursing students not only possessed clinical knowledge but could also present innovative perspectives on AI-powered healthcare internationally. The School planned to continue promoting courses integrating AI Smart Nursing and Professional English for Healthcare, encouraging students to participate in domestic and international competitions and academic exchanges, and cultivating globally competitive smart nursing talent.
This achievement not only affirmed the students’ professional capabilities but also symbolized a new chapter in nursing education in the AI era. The School of Nursing at Yuan Ze University continued to integrate AI-enabled nursing with sustainable care concepts, nurturing the next generation of nursing professionals with technological skills, cross-cultural communication ability, and humanistic care, allowing the “AI × Nursing” synergy to continue shining in healthcare.
