The 2026 Taoyuan Land Art Festival International Forum concluded with great success. The forum brought together curators, artists, scholars, and local practitioners from Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, and Spain. Through keynote speeches, international panel discussions, and exchange sessions, participants focused on issues including the environment, ecology, cultural governance, regional revitalization, and sustainable development. Together, they explored how art responded to contemporary challenges and deepened diverse dialogues on urban and local development.
The forum invited distinguished international speakers, including urban landscape and historic landscape preservation expert Yukio Nishimura from Japan, Setouchi Triennale practitioner Ryoji Kasahara, community design expert Ryo Yamazaki, curator Sachiko Shikata, Eung-woo Ri from South Korea, and Mireya Samper from Spain. They shared valuable experiences in artistic interventions in public spaces, cultural governance, community co-creation, and sustainable development. Their insights created meaningful opportunities for deeper exchanges between Taoyuan and international art networks.
Representing Taiwan, Hsuan-Cheng Chen, Project Director of the 2026 Taoyuan Land Art Festival, curator Yu-Chieh Lin, curator Wan-Wen Huang, social practice artist Mali Wu, and community-building practitioner Chia-Hung Hsiang shared the curatorial journey and local achievements of the Taoyuan Pearl Coast. Their presentations demonstrated how art was integrated with natural ecology, local culture, and community participation. Through dialogue with international experiences, they inspired new possibilities for artistic engagement in local governance.
The 2026 Taoyuan Land Art Festival officially launched a cross-regional curatorial framework and connected fishing harbors, wetlands, algal reefs, dunes, and settlements along the Taoyuan Pearl Coast in a biennial format. Through artistic practices, the festival linked natural ecology, local culture, and public participation, gradually establishing a cultural exchange platform that combined international perspectives with local characteristics.
This international forum not only promoted the exchange of experiences among participants from different countries but also accumulated valuable knowledge and practical momentum for the future development of the biennial model, cultural governance, and local sustainability initiatives in Taoyuan.
