In response to the global trend of net-zero carbon emissions and to promote green energy technological innovation and deepen energy education, Yuan Ze University has undertaken the Ministry of Education's "Multi-faceted Promotion of the Establishment of Solar Photovoltaic Pioneer Project" and held the "New Trends in Green Energy: Hydrogen Energy, Biomass Energy and Energy Storage Forum" on May 15, inviting experts from industry, government, academia and research to focus on forward-looking energy issues such as hydrogen energy, biomass energy and energy storage, and to discuss Taiwan's key strategies and technical paths on the road to net zero.
In his opening speech, Yuan Ze University President Liao Qingrong said that in the face of the wave of global energy transformation, green energy technology is not only an environmentally friendly choice, but also a core driving force for industrial upgrading and sustainable development. The forum would like to express special thanks to Deputy Director Wu Zhiwei of the Agency of Energy of the Ministry of Economic Affairs for his presence and guidance, which demonstrates the government's high attention to green energy development and energy education, and also recognizes Yuan Ze University's active role in the energy field.
Yuan Ze University has long been committed to green technology and sustainable development. It has a "Green Technology Research Center" on campus and offers a "Net Zero Carbon Emissions Sustainable Development Postgraduate Program" to actively cultivate cross-domain talents with carbon management and energy integration capabilities. The school has also built a complete solar photovoltaic system and formed a "Low Carbon and Smart Counseling Team" to assist companies in conducting greenhouse gas inventories and carbon footprint verification, fulfilling the university's social responsibility.
Liao Qingrong further pointed out that Yuan Ze University has demonstrated abundant energy in energy research. The Dentsu College and College of Engineering teams continue to make innovative breakthroughs in the fields of solar energy, power electronics, hydrogen energy technology and energy storage systems. Many professors have accumulated profound results in hydrogen energy preparation and fuel cell technology, and work closely with the industry. The Institute of Biotechnology has been working on the microbial conversion of biomass energy and the recycling of organic waste for many years, demonstrating its outstanding research capabilities.
This forum specially invited Guo Zhengqian, distinguished professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering and director of the Institute of Energy Sustainability at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and Chen Chongxian, head of the Renewable and Forward-looking Energy Development Group of the Agency of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs, to give special speeches to share international energy trends and Taiwan's development direction, as well as new energy technologies towards the net zero era. The symposium was jointly attended by Pan Jinping, senior advisor to the chairman of Far Eastern Group and chief strategy officer in the energy field, Cai Zhimeng, deputy general manager of Taiwan Power Company, Lu Guoxu, director of the Green Energy Technology Research Institute of CPC Corporation, and Wei Yuhong, research director of Yuan Ze University. They discussed the practical applications and challenges of hydrogen energy, biomass energy, energy storage and microgrids from different perspectives, hoping to inspire more feasible strategies for energy transformation.
Yuan Ze University has achieved fruitful results in green energy education and practice. In 2023, it won the Ministry of Economic Affairs' "Energy Saving Benchmark Award - Education Industry Gold Award", becoming the only university in Taiwan to receive this honor; in 2024, it also won the "National Sustainability Development Award", demonstrating its outstanding performance in promoting a sustainable campus. This forum is not only an important platform for academic and practical exchanges, but also a concrete action for Yuan Ze University to realize its sustainable development vision. In the future, the school will continue to strengthen education, scientific research and industrial cooperation, and work together with all sectors of society to move towards a green future.
