Private University Pride! Yuan Ze University’s Jimmy Lin Wins the Prestigious “National Chair Professorship” — The Only Private University Scholar Selected in the Past Decade

The Ministry of Education announced the winners of the 29th National Chair Professorship, and Professor Jimmy Lin from Yuan Ze University’s Department of Electrical Engineering stood out with his outstanding research achievements, earning this honor, which is often regarded as the highest academic distinction in Taiwan.

His selection marked a major milestone for private universities, as Professor Lin was not only the only recipient from a private university this year but also the first in the past ten years, making his recognition especially significant.

Professor Lin had long dedicated himself to research in artificial intelligence and electrical engineering, producing abundant results. He published numerous internationally influential papers and led multiple interdisciplinary projects. His research combined theoretical depth and practical value, with applications spanning automatic control, medical diagnosis, signal processing, and business forecasting, making a substantial impact on both academic development and industrial innovation.

In response to this distinguished honor, Professor Lin humbly stated that the recognition belonged to his entire research team and Yuan Ze University. “I merely represent all the private university scholars who continue to strive for excellence despite limited resources,” he said, expressing gratitude for the university’s long-term support of research development. He also hoped that this achievement would inspire young scholars to pursue innovative research with courage and passion.

Scholars noted that private universities had long faced disadvantages in terms of research resources and academic evaluation. Professor Lin’s selection not only served as a morale boost for private higher education but also demonstrated the potential and resilience of private universities in knowledge innovation and research excellence.

Looking ahead, Professor Lin expressed his intention to continue advancing research in artificial intelligence and interdisciplinary applications. He also called for the Ministry of Education to foster a more diverse and open academic ecosystem, encouraging more private university faculty to contribute their expertise and push the boundaries of scientific discovery.

This honor was not only a personal achievement for Professor Lin but also a symbol of the growing research strength and international competitiveness of Taiwan’s private universities amid the transformation of higher education.
