Students and Teachers from Catholic High School, Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia Visited Yuan Ze University to Experience the Charm of Innovative Teaching

On June 24, a study tour group of 18 students and teachers from Catholic High School in Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia, visited Yuan Ze University (YZU) for a half-day campus tour and exchange activity.

The visit focused on experiencing YZU’s innovative teaching environment and featured laboratories. Through a guided campus tour and immersive experiences in specialized spaces, the group gained an in-depth understanding of the university’s teaching atmosphere and hands-on innovation.

Arranged by YZU’s Global Affairs Office, the visiting group toured several key facilities, including the university library, the creative studios of the Department of Art and Design, and the Smart Human-Machine Interaction Classroom of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management. Each site showcased the university’s proactive development in interdisciplinary integration and applied technology.

During the library tour, students were introduced to YZU’s diverse learning resources and digital management systems. They showed great interest in the extensive collections and modern self-service facilities. The visit to the art and design labs revealed actual student projects and the application of digital tools. The space demonstrated the integration of various media, including installation art and new media experimentation. This helped the visiting students develop an initial understanding of creative thinking and interdisciplinary production. The exhibits and explanations emphasized that creativity is not just about technical skills but also about conceptual development and social engagement.

One of the most captivating parts of the visit was the Smart Human-Machine Interaction Classroom, which combined sensor technology with ergonomic design. The space featured prototype applications of human-machine interaction, voice recognition, and intelligent environments. Through experiential learning, students gained insights into how artificial intelligence and engineering design respond to user needs and experienced firsthand how technology is being integrated into everyday life.

The visit not only broadened the Malaysian students’ understanding of a university learning environment but also sparked curiosity in technological innovation and hands-on design. Yuan Ze University’s open learning resources and interdisciplinary teaching approach helped inspire students' motivation and encouraged them to consider their future academic paths.

This visit also laid a strong foundation for future international educational exchanges between the two institutions. Yuan Ze University aimed to continue fostering such connections with international secondary schools through immersive experiences and exchange activities, expanding students’ global perspectives and promoting educational cooperation in a multicultural context.
