Yuan Ze University Rose to the 301–400 Tier Globally in THE Impact Rankings 2025, Ranking First Among Taiwanese General Universities in SDG 11 and SDG 17

Yuan Ze University (YZU) made a significant leap in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, rising to the 301–400 range globally. This achievement reflected the university’s ongoing efforts and concrete results in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

First launched in 2019, the THE Impact Rankings entered its sixth edition this year. It is the world’s first university ranking system based entirely on the 17 SDGs. A total of 2,526 universities from 130 countries and regions participated in the 2025 rankings, with 2,318 universities included in the final list. Taiwan had 53 universities ranked, demonstrating the nation’s growing commitment to sustainable development in higher education.

In recent years, Yuan Ze University actively promoted sustainability initiatives and received numerous recognitions, including the Ministry of Economic Affairs Energy Saving Benchmark Gold Award, the National Sustainable Development Award, the National Enterprise Environmental Protection Award, and the Taiwan Top 10 Sustainable University Award. These efforts were clearly reflected in its performance in the THE Impact Rankings. Since first being ranked in the 801–1000 bracket in 2022, YZU improved by one tier each year, reaching the 301–400 group in 2025. It tied for 12th place nationally alongside seven other institutions, including National Taiwan Normal University.

In addition to the overall ranking improvement, YZU stood out in several individual SDG categories. It ranked 26th globally in SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, placing first nationwide. In SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, which is mandatory for all participating institutions, YZU ranked 35th globally and was the top-performing general university in Taiwan. The university also performed strongly in SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, both ranking in the 101–200 tier globally.

President Ching-Jung Liao stated that this year’s results not only demonstrated international recognition of YZU’s sustainable development efforts but also highlighted the university’s overall strength and growth potential in SDG-related academic research, education quality, community engagement, and campus governance. He added that Yuan Ze University would continue to deepen its strategies and actions aligned with the SDGs, contributing further to sustainable development in Taiwan and around the world.
