Yuan Ze University’s College of General Studies and Alumni Association Visited the Legislative Yuan — Experiencing the Heart of Taiwan’s Democracy

To deepen students’ understanding of democratic governance, the rule of law, and public participation, Yuan Ze University’s College of General Studies and the Alumni Association jointly organized an educational activity titled “Entering the Hall of Democracy — A Visit to the Legislative Yuan” on September 30, 2025.

The visit was led by Professor Feng-Ying Hu, who guided her students in this off-campus learning experience. The event itinerary was thoughtfully planned by Alumni Association Chairman Kun-Nan Wei and Secretary-General Ching-Jung Lee, while Ming-Che Lu, a Yuan Ze University EMBA alumnus from the Class of 1991 and current Legislator, personally hosted and guided the group, offering faculty, students, and alumni an in-depth look into the inner workings of Taiwan’s parliament.

Centered on the theme “Entering the Core of Democracy: Experiencing the Spirit of Constitutional Governance,” the visit allowed participants to explore the Legislative Yuan in person. Through professional guided tours and on-site Q&A sessions, students learned about the legislative process, plenary session operations, and bill review procedures. They not only gained a clearer understanding of Taiwan’s parliamentary system but also developed a deeper appreciation for the rational discussion and civic responsibility that underpin democratic politics.

During the visit, Legislative Yuan President Kuo-Yu Han made a special appearance to greet and take photos with the Yuan Ze delegation, demonstrating his warmth and approachability. He encouraged students to pay closer attention to public affairs and to cultivate a sense of civic responsibility by understanding governmental systems. His friendly interaction created a lively and cordial atmosphere, leaving a lasting impression on all participants.

In addition, the Legislative Yuan opened its main chamber for the visiting group, allowing participants to witness firsthand the core setting of legislative decision-making. They observed the seating arrangements, operational details, and procedural flow of the chamber, gaining a tangible sense of how democratic systems are realized through space and process. Many students expressed that the field experience gave them a deeper insight into democratic politics and reinforced the importance of civic engagement.

Alongside Legislator Lu, Meng-Kai Hung, an alumnus from the Department of Business Administration, College of Management, Class of 1990, and a current Legislator, also joined the tour. He shared his experiences working in parliament with fellow alumni and younger students, exemplifying Yuan Ze University’s enduring spirit of social responsibility and commitment to public service.

The organizers hoped that through this experiential learning activity, students and alumni would strengthen their understanding of constitutional governance and civic duty, and be inspired to actively participate in society and contribute to the nation’s development.
