University life extends far beyond the classroom. Student clubs serve as vital platforms for developing communication, teamwork, leadership, and hands-on problem-solving skills. To welcome new students, Yuan Ze University held its annual Clubs Expo on September 9 and 10, bringing together nearly 50 student organizations at the campus plaza. Covering a wide range of interests, including music, dance, sports, board games, photography, service learning, community engagement, and professional development, the clubs employed creative recruitment strategies through interactive booths, experiential activities, and live performances. The event enabled freshmen to explore new interests while experiencing the diverse, self-directed, and dynamic culture of student organizations at the university.
The expo resembled a miniature version of campus life. The Guitar Club and Piano Club attracted students with live musical performances, while the Kendo Club and Judo Club demonstrated fundamental techniques that highlighted discipline, teamwork, and athletic skill. The Board Game Club provided a variety of games that helped new students quickly connect with one another, and the Photography Club transformed its booth into a small studio, offering creative photo experiences that drew enthusiastic participation. The Animal Protection Club approached student engagement from the perspectives of life education and empathy, demonstrating that club involvement could be both enjoyable and socially meaningful.
In addition to the static exhibitions, the plaza in front of Yuan Ze Building 7 became a vibrant stage for student performances. The MV Dance Club and Hip-Hop Dance Club presented a series of K-pop random dance challenges and diverse dance performances that immediately attracted large crowds. The performances were supported through collaboration with the YOUTH Volunteer Alliance, whose members provided professional sound systems and technical assistance. From the performances on stage to behind-the-scenes operations, students played leading roles throughout the event, demonstrating the spirit of resource sharing, teamwork, and independent execution among student organizations.
While club activities appeared lively and entertaining, they also reflected the university's commitment to extracurricular learning. Through organizing events, recruiting members, managing organizations, collaborating across clubs, and passing on institutional knowledge, students gained valuable practical experience beyond the classroom. The effectiveness of this educational approach has also been reflected in the university's outstanding performance in national student organization competitions.
At the Ministry of Education's 2026 National College and University Student Club Evaluation and Observation Program, which featured participation from 116 institutions and 225 student organizations across Taiwan, Yuan Ze University received two awards of excellence and retained the Annual Best Featured Activity Award for the sixth consecutive year. CPA Club earned an Excellence Award in the Academic and Scholarly Category by integrating professional learning, career exploration, and community service to promote the concept of learning through practice. Meanwhile, the Student Association of the Department of Chinese Linguistics and Literature, participating for the first time, received an Excellence Award in the Autonomous and Comprehensive Category through activities such as Hanfu cultural experiences, literary awards, and cultural promotion programs, showcasing students' abilities in organizational management and cultural preservation.
Another distinctive feature of student organizations at Yuan Ze University is their emphasis on internationalization and inclusiveness. The Student Association of the International Bachelor Program in Strategic Communication (IBSC), under the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, received the Annual Best Featured Activity Award for its "We Are The World" initiative. Team members came from Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Mongolia, and Eswatini, and the project promoted interaction between domestic and international students. Through collaboration that crossed linguistic and cultural boundaries, participants developed intercultural communication skills, mutual respect, and teamwork, making student clubs an important platform for international students to integrate into campus life while helping local students broaden their global perspectives.
Yi-Chun Liu, Dean of Student Affairs, stated that the university places great importance on students' holistic development. Student organizations not only enrich university life but also serve as important platforms for cultivating initiative, leadership, and broader perspectives. The flourishing development of nearly 50 student clubs and the university's continued recognition in national evaluations demonstrate the remarkable energy students invest in self-directed learning and extracurricular practice. Looking ahead, the university will continue to provide resources and comprehensive support mechanisms to encourage students to pursue diverse interests, engage in interdisciplinary and intercultural exchange, and discover opportunities for personal growth through club involvement. Through these experiences, every student can create a unique and meaningful university journey.
