On March 14, 2024, Prof. Dr. Chawin Chantharasenawong, Vice President for International Affairs at King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), and Prof. Dr. Hong-Ming Ku, Assistant to the President for Internationalization, visited Yuan Ze University (YZU) for an academic exchange.
They were warmly received by Prof. Sun Yi-Ming, Dean of the College of Engineering, representatives from the College of Engineering, the College of Informatics, and the College of Electrical and Communication Engineering. This visit further deepened academic exchanges between the two institutions and laid a solid foundation for future collaboration.
During the visit, the two distinguished guests met with four KMUTT graduate students currently interning at YZU’s Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science and their supervising professors. They engaged in in-depth discussions to understand the students’ academic progress and research experiences. The students expressed that they had successfully adapted to their new environment and had access to excellent learning and research resources. Their supervisors also highly recognized their academic progress and achievements.
Both parties also conducted in-depth discussions on establishing a new smart manufacturing master's program. Dean Sun Yi-Ming noted that YZU had collaborated with large PCB manufacturers in Taoyuan to launch a master's dual-degree program and an industry-academia special program tailored for Thai students. The program offered living stipends and tuition subsidies from Taiwan’s Ministry of Education. Students were required to complete coursework, a master’s thesis, and Mandarin training while participating in internships at partner companies. After graduation, they could choose to work in Taiwan for two years or return to Thailand to work in related industries, assisting partner companies in establishing new factories in Thailand and fostering globally competitive talent.
Furthermore, discussions were held regarding the details of the dual master's degree program. KMUTT planned to send nearly 100 undergraduate students to Taiwan for a two-month overseas internship this year and hoped that YZU could accommodate 10 to 15 KMUTT students for research internships. At the same time, KMUTT expressed a willingness to assist YZU students in securing overseas internships at partner companies in Thailand, providing them with opportunities to expand their global perspectives and enhance their professional skills.
King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) has gained international recognition for its excellence in engineering, science, technology, and architecture and is one of Thailand's top universities, designated as one of the country's nine national research universities. This visit not only strengthened academic exchanges and cooperation between YZU and KMUTT but also marked a new chapter in the long-term collaboration between the two institutions across multiple fields.
