Yuan Ze University made a significant leap in the newly released 2026 QS World University Rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a UK-based higher education evaluation organization.
Taiwan had 27 universities listed this year, the same as the previous year. Yuan Ze University climbed an impressive 144 spots to reach 1,156th place globally, ranking 16th nationally. It recorded the largest improvement among all universities in Taiwan, demonstrating strong international competitiveness.
The university’s remarkable rise of over 100 positions was primarily driven by its efforts in "internationalization" and "sustainability." President Ching-Jung Liao of Yuan Ze University pointed out that the university had been actively creating an international learning environment. All five colleges established English-taught undergraduate programs, and the "International College" was founded to integrate bilingual teaching resources. The college provided international students with fully English-taught courses, living assistance, and cultural integration services. Currently, students from over 50 countries study at Yuan Ze, with international students accounting for over 10% of the total enrollment, reflecting a highly diverse and globalized campus.
In addition, the university actively recruited outstanding international faculty, with full-time foreign teachers making up more than 10% of the faculty, the highest ratio among comprehensive universities in Taiwan. This strategy effectively boosted QS indicators such as "citations per faculty" and "international research network."
Beyond internationalization, Yuan Ze University’s efforts in sustainability were also widely recognized. Its score in the “sustainability” indicator significantly improved. The university had incorporated the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into both teaching and administrative governance. In recent years, it has won numerous domestic and international sustainability awards, including the Ministry of Economic Affairs Energy Conservation Benchmark Gold Award, the National Sustainable Development Award, and the Taiwan Top Ten Sustainable University Award, reflecting its commitment and action in alignment with global trends.
President Ching-Jung Liao emphasized, “We will continue to enhance the quality of teaching and research, deepen international engagement, and bring recognition to Taiwan’s higher education on the global stage.”
This year’s QS World University Rankings evaluated more than 1,500 universities worldwide, based on eight major indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-to-student ratio, citations per faculty, international student ratio, international faculty ratio, international research network, and employment outcomes. Yuan Ze University’s outstanding performance not only brought honor to Taiwan’s private universities but also demonstrated that mid-sized universities, with strategic planning and distinctive development, could stand out in global rankings.
