Associate Professor Miko Ching-Ying Yu of Yuan Ze University Honored with Excellence Award at the Sustainable Teaching Practice and Outcomes Competition

Associate Professor Miko Ching-Ying Yu from the College of Management at Yuan Ze University stood out in the 2025 Sustainable Teaching Practice and Outcomes Competition, receiving the Excellence Award in recognition of her outstanding achievements and dedication to sustainability education.

The 2025 Sustainable Teaching Practice and Outcomes Competition was co-organized by the CTCI Education Foundation and the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE). The competition aimed to encourage university faculty to promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through innovative course design and action-oriented teaching practices, delivering tangible responses to global sustainability challenges.

The competition attracted enthusiastic participation from faculty members across universities nationwide and was highly competitive. Entries were evaluated based on three key criteria: course innovation, integration of sustainability issues, and commitment to practical implementation. Following both preliminary and final review stages, only 20 faculty members advanced to the final round. Drawing on years of dedication to interdisciplinary curriculum design, hands-on practice, and student engagement, Associate Professor Yu earned unanimous recognition from the judging panel and ultimately secured the Excellence Award, bringing further distinction to Yuan Ze University.

Associate Professor Yu had long been committed to advancing sustainability education. Through innovative teaching approaches and the integration of international resources, she guided students from local practice toward global action. In 2024, she represented Yuan Ze University by presenting her work in the Blue Zone at COP29, demonstrating the university’s academic capacity and visibility in global sustainability discussions. In August 2025, she was invited to teach a sustainability course at the University of Oxford, further deepening international educational exchange. She was also selected as a recipient of the 2026 Fulbright EMI Overseas Professional Training Program at the University of California, San Diego.

On the practical front, the Bajau Humanitarian Relief Project led by Associate Professor Yu successfully integrated humanitarian care with environmental sustainability, helping marginalized communities improve living conditions while gaining access to environmental education. The project’s outcomes received international attention. In addition, she participated in the 2025 Smart Zero-Carbon City Forum organized by a European innovation organization in March 2025, actively promoting cross-border collaboration and policy dialogue, and continuing to expand Yuan Ze University’s international influence in sustainability-related fields.

The College of Management at Yuan Ze University stated that Associate Professor Yu’s recognition not only affirmed her long-term efforts in promoting sustainability education and practice-oriented teaching but also highlighted the college’s achievements in implementing its vision of “Intelligence × Sustainability.” Looking ahead, the college would continue to strengthen interdisciplinary curriculum development, expand collaboration with international sustainability organizations, and cultivate a new generation of talents equipped with global perspectives, innovative capabilities, and a strong commitment to sustainable practice—injecting lasting momentum into sustainable development in Taiwan and beyond.
