Yuan Ze University actively promotes cybersecurity education. Professor Cheng-Ta Huang from the Department of Information Management received a grant from the National Institute of Cyber Security (NICS) to offer a course titled “Cybersecurity Practice and Society” in 2025.
Yuan Ze became one of only six universities in Taiwan to receive this grant, demonstrating its outstanding strength in both cybersecurity teaching and practical application.
The course aimed to cultivate students’ core cybersecurity skills, with a strong emphasis on practical experience. It enabled students to transform hands-on learning into real-world application by acting as cybersecurity consultants. They assisted domestic non-profit organizations and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in conducting cybersecurity checkups and consultations, thereby enhancing Taiwan’s overall cybersecurity resilience.
Professor Huang explained that the course model was based on the Consortium of Cybersecurity Clinics in the United States. This alliance, initiated by top institutions such as the University of California, Berkeley and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), focused on strengthening cybersecurity through academic-industry collaboration. By adopting this model and tailoring it to Taiwan’s industry needs, Yuan Ze achieved an important milestone in aligning Taiwan’s cybersecurity education with international standards.
With support from cybersecurity team members Sheng-Tsung Weng, Hsuan-Hui Huang, and Ho-Chen Lin, students in the course achieved fruitful results. They provided cybersecurity diagnostics and consultation services to organizations, including Linkersys, Hope Equation Ltd., Taoyuan Parenting Education Association, Shuangfu Social Welfare and Charity Foundation, Funtrip Co., Ltd., and Swarmie Digital Store. Students not only gained practical experience but also expanded their global perspectives and developed cross-disciplinary communication and project execution skills.
The Department of Information Management had long been dedicated to cybersecurity education. In addition to offering advanced courses in cloud and IoT security, the department actively responded to industry needs. The department established the “Cybersecurity CORNER” and organized the Taiwan Cybersecurity Community Alliance CTF Competition for two consecutive years. It also regularly holds summer cybersecurity camps to enhance students’ hands-on abilities and boost their career competitiveness.
In addition to its formal curriculum, Yuan Ze University's School of Lifelong Education offered free online courses related to information security, fulfilling the university’s commitment to its social responsibility (USR). These efforts not only strengthened its teaching capacity in cybersecurity but also gave back to society through tangible service. This demonstrated Yuan Ze’s proactive role in cultivating talent and promoting academia-industry co-creation.
Looking ahead, Yuan Ze planned to continue expanding internationally aligned educational models and remained committed to developing cybersecurity professionals equipped with a global vision and real-world skills.
