Yuan Ze University Held the 2026 Commencement Ceremony: President Ching-Jung Liao Emphasized “AQ Over IQ”

Yuan Ze University held its 2026 commencement ceremony, themed “To Be Continued,” on the evening of June 6 at the plaza in front of Building V on campus. Approximately 2,163 graduates completed their studies this year. The theme symbolized that graduation was not an endpoint, but the beginning of a new chapter in life.

In his remarks, Ching-Jung Liao, President of Yuan Ze University, encouraged graduates to confidently face the AI era. He pointed out that, in addition to IQ (Intelligence Quotient) and EQ (Emotional Quotient), future success required the cultivation of AQ (AI Quotient)—the ability to collaborate with artificial intelligence. Only by developing this capability could individuals maintain a competitive advantage in a rapidly changing environment.

Liao noted that Yuan Ze University had achieved outstanding results in recent years. For the 2025 academic year, undergraduate enrollment reached full capacity at 100%, with a registration rate of 103.13%, ranking first among public and private universities in Taiwan. In addition, the University ranked 176th in Asia in the 2026 Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings, placing it among the top 200 institutions.

Addressing the development trends of AI, Liao stated that while AI would replace certain repetitive tasks, it would also generate greater demand for advanced technical and interdisciplinary talent. He emphasized that individuals who could integrate AI into their professional fields would be the least likely to be replaced. Whether in engineering, management, or the humanities and social sciences, possessing AI application skills and computational thinking would be essential.

He further highlighted that Yuan Ze University was the first university in Taiwan to designate “AI Programming Languages” as a required course. The University aimed not only to enable students to use AI tools, but also to understand their underlying principles and apply AI effectively to solve problems and create value. He concluded by encouraging graduates to leverage their strengths and forge their own paths in the AI era.

This year’s ceremony featured a special guest, Chih-Yuan Lu, Chairman of Ardentec Corporation. He encouraged graduates by noting that life was full of choices—whether entering the workforce, pursuing further studies, studying abroad, or starting a business—and that these were all pathways toward fulfilling personal aspirations. What truly mattered, he emphasized, was identifying one’s passion and committing to a meaningful lifelong pursuit. He encouraged students to understand their interests, abilities, and personal traits, and to realize their full potential through passion.

Drawing on the development of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry as an example, Lu pointed out that despite limited resources and uncertain prospects in its early stages, persistence and dedication had enabled it to become a key global force. He encouraged graduates not to be discouraged by setbacks, reminding them that when one door closed, another often opened. Speaking on entrepreneurship, he emphasized that it should stem from the passion to change the world and realize one’s ideals, rather than as an escape from current circumstances. He urged graduates to follow the principle of aligning their paths with their talents and to pursue their dreams with determination and continuous self-improvement.

Yuan Ze University had long promoted internationalized education. This year, 240 international students graduated, coming from countries including Vietnam, India, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Eswatini, Saint Lucia, and Saudi Arabia. Among them, Tran Viet Cuong, an alumnus from Vietnam and head of FCT Yongsheng Co., Ltd., exemplified the success of the University’s international education. After enrolling in the EMBA overseas program in Vietnam in 2019, he was deeply influenced by the University’s educational philosophy and subsequently encouraged his children to study in Taiwan.

In 2022, his son, Duc-Minh Tran, enrolled in the English-taught bachelor’s program at the College of Management, participated in an exchange program in Germany, and was admitted this year to the Graduate Institute of Finance at National Taiwan University. In 2024, his daughter, Minh-Chau Tran, also chose to study at Yuan Ze University after receiving multiple university admissions and scholarship offers. From father to children, the entire family became part of the Yuan Ze community, highlighting the University’s educational quality and strong international reputation.

Tran Viet Cuong noted that what attracted him most to Yuan Ze University was not only its comprehensive teaching resources and internationalized environment, but also the dedication of its faculty and its educational philosophy that balanced theory and practice. Over the years, he had continued to recommend Yuan Ze University to relatives and outstanding students in Vietnam. This year, six more applications from relatives’ children were submitted, continuing their trust in the University’s educational quality.

This year’s graduation song, “Dreamore,” was co-created by students and conveyed the courage and hope of graduates as they embarked on their future journeys. During the ceremony, Han-Tsung Hsiao, President of the Graduating Class Association and a student from the Department of Information Management, delivered a speech on behalf of the graduates in both Chinese and English, expressing sincere gratitude to faculty members, families, and the University. The ceremony concluded with a fireworks display titled “A Brilliant Graduation,” illuminating the night sky and symbolizing graduates moving forward with the knowledge, skills, and friendships they had gained at Yuan Ze University toward the next exciting stage of their lives.
