To promote international understanding and cultural exchange on campus, Yuan Ze University held the 2026 Muslim Iftar Gathering on March 11. The event was jointly organized by the Office of Global Affairs, Yuan Ze University, in collaboration with the Muslim Student Association and the Global Student Association, and attracted more than 120 faculty members and students.
Through firsthand participation in an important religious observance of the Muslim holy month, attendees gained deeper insights into Islamic culture in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Before sunset, the event began with a prayer session led by Riyas, an international student from India, symbolizing devotion and gratitude following a day of fasting. Ramadan is one of the most significant religious periods in Islam, emphasizing self‑reflection, discipline, and community solidarity, while the Iftar gathering represents a meaningful occasion for Muslims to share faith and fellowship.
In addition to the religious ceremony, the event also featured cultural and culinary experiences. Jafar, a student from Saudi Arabia, prepared a variety of Middle Eastern dishes, allowing participants to further explore Muslim culture while sharing a meal. Attendees included students from Taiwan, Pakistan, Indonesia, India, Kyrgyzstan, Germany, France, Vietnam, Somaliland, and Latvia, as well as students from Chinese Culture University, highlighting inter‑university exchange and multicultural interaction.
Yun‑Chia Liang, Director of International Affairs, Office of Global Affairs, Yuan Ze University, noted that the University had long promoted an internationalized campus policy and was committed to creating a friendly and inclusive learning environment. By hosting the Ramadan Iftar event, the University not only enhanced understanding among faculty members and students from different cultural and religious backgrounds, but also enabled Muslim students to feel respected and a strong sense of belonging on campus.
The event coordinator, Aiyue, a student from Kyrgyzstan, pointed out that the Iftar gathering provided a supportive platform for Muslim students to connect during Ramadan, while also offering non‑Muslim faculty members and students an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Islamic culture. She emphasized that the event helped cultivate respect for diversity and strengthened cross‑cultural communication skills.
Yuan Ze University stated that Muslim‑friendly restrooms and related facilities had been established across campus buildings to continuously enhance a Muslim‑friendly campus environment, supporting students in balancing their academic pursuits with religious life. Looking ahead, the University planned to further deepen campus internationalization through a wider range of cultural and educational activities, fully embodying the values of diversity, inclusiveness, and sustainability in higher education.
