In recent years, the Department of Chinese Linguistics and Literature, Yuan Ze University, has actively expanded international academic exchange and established collaborative partnerships with several renowned overseas institutions, including the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, Pusan National University, Busan University of Foreign Studies, and Lac Hong University in Vietnam. These initiatives had significantly deepened cross‑national engagement in the fields of literature, history, and cultural studies.
Beginning in 2024, the Department further launched a long‑term collaboration with the Department of Chinese History and Culture, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, a globally top‑100 university. The two institutions jointly hosted the Forum on Chinese Culture, held alternately in Hong Kong and Taoyuan, with its academic scale and impact continuing to expand each year.
From March 14 to 16, 2026, the Third Forum on Chinese Culture was held at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, with a delegation of faculty members and students from Yuan Ze University in attendance. During the forum, scholars from both institutions presented more than 30 academic papers, covering a broad spectrum of topics including Chinese literature, philosophy, history, culture, and cinema. The breadth and depth of the research demonstrated strong scholarly foundations and received high recognition from participating academics.
To encourage student research excellence, the forum also established Outstanding Paper Awards. Students from Yuan Ze University’s Department of Chinese Linguistics and Literature achieved outstanding results: En‑Yu Chang received the First Prize; Lo‑Hsieh Lin and Hsiao‑Chu Hsu were awarded the Second Prize; while Wen‑Ting Lin, Hui‑Fang Lin, and Ming‑Ming Yu received the Third Prize, highlighting the Department’s strong research training outcomes.
In addition to academic exchange, the organizers arranged a series of Hong Kong cultural visits, guided by faculty members and students from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Participants visited Tai Kwun, Man Mo Temple, the Central District, and the Hong Kong Palace Museum, gaining deeper insights into Hong Kong’s diverse cultural landscape through a cityscape where history and modernity intersect.
Wei‑Hsuan Ho, Director of the Department of Chinese Linguistics and Literature, Yuan Ze University, stated that the Department had established a leading position in both traditional humanities scholarship and the integration of AI‑assisted digital teaching. The parallel advancement of technology and the humanities has become a key strategic direction, forming the foundation for close collaboration with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, an institution with a strong engineering and technological background. In addition to jointly offering multiple “AI + Humanities” interdisciplinary courses, the two institutions have confirmed that the Fourth Forum on Chinese Culture would be hosted by Yuan Ze University in the coming year.
Director Ho further noted that both institutions were also planning to co‑organize “AI + Humanities” faculty workshops to exchange teaching and research experiences and to explore new opportunities for the development of the humanities in the AI era. The Department of Chinese Linguistics and Literature at Yuan Ze University would continue to advance international exchange initiatives, creating more diverse, high‑quality learning opportunities and stronger global engagement pathways for students.
