Yuan Ze University and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Signed an MOU to Establish a New Model of “AI + Humanities” International Collaboration

The Department of Chinese Linguistics and Literature at Yuan Ze University has continued to expand its global academic collaboration network. On May 22, it officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Chinese History and Culture at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Hong Kong. The two sides agreed to deepen academic exchanges and focus on interdisciplinary collaboration in “AI + Humanities,” working together to build a new model for innovative humanities education between Taiwan and Hong Kong.

The signing ceremony was held at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Wei-Hsuan Ho, Director of the Department of Chinese Linguistics and Literature at Yuan Ze University, personally visited Hong Kong for the event. He was received by Xing Hang, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, and Xiaorong Han, Director of the Department of Chinese History and Culture, reflecting the high level of importance both institutions placed on this partnership.

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University was an internationally renowned institution, ranking 54th globally and 10th in Asia in the 2026 QS World University Rankings. In fact, the two universities had already co-organized the “Forum on Chinese Culture” since 2024, with the event held alternately each year in Hong Kong and Taoyuan, thereby establishing a solid foundation for sustained academic collaboration.

At the third forum held in March this year, faculty members and students from both institutions presented more than 30 papers, covering diverse research areas such as Chinese literature, history, philosophy, culture, and film studies. This demonstrated their strong academic capabilities in the humanities as well as the achievements of international exchange. After three consecutive years of collaboration, both sides decided to further institutionalize and sustain their partnership by formally signing the MOU, marking the beginning of a new phase of cooperation.

Wei-Hsuan Ho, Director of the Department of Chinese Linguistics and Literature at Yuan Ze University, stated that the department had actively promoted the integration of traditional humanities research with AI-driven digital teaching in recent years, gradually shaping a distinctive development path characterized by the parallel advancement of technology and the humanities. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University had also placed strong emphasis on interdisciplinary integration between technology and the humanities, and this alignment of visions had facilitated the collaboration. In the future, in addition to continuing the “Forum on Chinese Culture,” both sides would promote activities such as “AI + Humanities” faculty workshops and student summer camps, further exploring the positioning and development possibilities of the humanities in the AI era.

In addition to the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Department of Chinese Linguistics and Literature at Yuan Ze University has also actively expanded its international academic network in recent years. It had established exchange and collaborative partnerships with institutions including City University of Hong Kong, Pusan National University, Busan University of Foreign Studies, Lac Hong University in Vietnam, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in the United States.

The university emphasized that it would continue to strengthen international linkages and cultivate a new generation of talents in Chinese studies equipped with global perspectives and interdisciplinary AI capabilities.
