From the Classroom to the World: YZU College of Humanities and Social Sciences English Program Won a National Student Club Award through Action-Based Learning

A student team from the International Bachelor’s Program in English (IBSC), College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Yuan Ze University, won the National Best Featured Student Club Activity Award, placing among the top ten nationwide, with its cross-cultural service project “We Are The World.” Guided by the Extracurricular Activities Section, the team stood out among numerous university student organizations across Taiwan.

The achievement also marked the first time Yuan Ze University participated in the national student club evaluation and showcase with international students, highlighting the University’s accomplishments in internationalized education and cross-cultural practice.

The University stated that the IBSC at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences had centered its development on internationalization, strategic communication, and practice-oriented learning. Its curriculum emphasized a balance between theory and practice and encouraged students to extend classroom learning into real-world social contexts. The award-winning project served as a concrete example of how students transformed professional knowledge into meaningful action.

The “We Are The World” project was independently initiated and executed by IBSC students. Team members came from 14 countries, including Japan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Taiwan, representing diverse cultural backgrounds. Through cross-cultural collaboration and communication, students jointly planned and implemented a series of exchange and service activities. Through hands-on interaction, they learned to respect differences, understand others, and build meaningful cross-cultural connections.

Guided by the core concept of “Bridging Cultures, Love without Borders,” the project was fully carried out by the multinational student team—from concept development and content design to external communication and on-site execution. Throughout the process, students not only strengthened their language and communication skills but also cultivated empathy, a sense of responsibility, and problem-solving abilities. The project fully embodied the educational philosophy of “learning by doing and doing by learning.”

The IBSC at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences noted that the students’ recognition in a national competition was closely related to the program’s long-term curriculum planning. Through the Intercultural Marketing and Communication Program and the Professional and Technical Communication Program, students were systematically trained in cross-cultural understanding, strategic communication, and content localization. These competencies enabled them to effectively integrate resources in multinational collaboration and activity planning, turning ideas into tangible outcomes.

The University emphasized that it would continue to deepen internationalized and practice-oriented teaching, encouraging students to participate in society and international exchange through diverse forms of action. By cultivating talents equipped with cross-cultural communication and problem-solving skills, Yuan Ze University aimed to inject new momentum into the internationalization of higher education.
