Yuan Ze University’s Yi-Huai Hsu Received the Outstanding Young Electrical Engineer Award from the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering

Yi-Huai Hsu, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Yuan Ze University, received the 114th Outstanding Young Electrical Engineer Award from the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering (CIEE), recognizing his research achievements in next-generation mobile communications and intelligent network resource allocation, as well as his long-standing dedication to higher education and engineering talent development.

He was the only awardee from a private university this year, demonstrating Yuan Ze University’s strong research capacity in cutting-edge information and communication technologies.

The Outstanding Young Electrical Engineer Award, presented by the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering, was regarded as a prestigious professional honor in Taiwan’s electrical and information technology fields. Eligible nominees were scholars under the age of 40 who demonstrated exceptional performance in academic research or engineering practice. Only five awardees were selected from academia nationwide each year, making the competition highly competitive and the recognition especially significant.

Yi-Huai Hsu joined Yuan Ze University’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering in 2021. His research expertise covered 6G Satellite–Air–Ground Integrated Network (SAGIN) and intelligent resource allocation in 5G terrestrial mobile networks. Using deep reinforcement learning as a core methodology, he explored key issues such as spectrum sharing, collaborative management of communication and computation resources, service caching, and task offloading. His research was published in multiple top-tier international journals in wireless communications and networking, including IEEE Transactions on Cognitive Communications and Networking, IEEE Transactions on Communications, and IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management, and was also presented at flagship IEEE conferences such as GLOBECOM, WCNC, and VTC.

As of now, Hsu has published 30 international journal and conference papers, secured six patents, and led multiple National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) research grants and industry–academia collaboration projects, reflecting both academic depth and industrial relevance.

In teaching and talent cultivation, Hsu actively guided graduate and undergraduate students to participate in academic research and competitions domestically and internationally. Many of his students received funding from the National Science and Technology Council and the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society, and earned awards, including Outstanding Paper Awards and Best Paper Honors, from organizations such as the Chinese Institute of Engineers, the Information Technology Society, the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering, the Chunghwa Telecom Thesis Awards, TANET, and MC&WASN. Several students under his guidance also received NSTC undergraduate research grants, with total funding and award amounts exceeding NT$280,000.

In addition, Hsu dedicated himself to international academic service. He served as a reviewer for numerous top-tier IEEE journals and conferences, and served as a Reviewer for IEEE WCNC, Session Chair for IEEE VTC-Fall 2024, and Technical Committee Member for the IEEE GLOBECOM 2025 Workshop, demonstrating the global recognition of his expertise and research contributions.

Looking toward the future, Yi-Huai Hsu stated that he would continue deepening his research in next-generation communications and intelligent networks, while strengthening talent cultivation and international collaboration, hoping to nurture more young students with global competitiveness and further showcase Taiwan’s research capacity on the world stage.
