The British higher education evaluation institution Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) held the QS Higher Ed Summit: Asia 2025 in Seoul, South Korea, from November 4 to 6, 2025. During the event, QS announced the results of the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2026 and presented awards to recognize outstanding higher education institutions.
This year, a total of 1,526 Asian universities were included in the rankings, with 57 universities from Taiwan making the list. Yuan Ze University (YZU) was ranked 236th in Asia and received the QS Global Engagement–Performance Improvement Award for its remarkable progress in internationalization indicators. Vice President Tze Chi Hsu attended the summit to receive the award on behalf of the university.
The QS World University Rankings: Asia 2026 evaluated institutions based on eleven indicators, including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-to-student ratio, proportion of faculty with a Ph.D., papers per faculty, citations per paper, international research network, proportion of international faculty and students, and ratios of both outbound and inbound exchange students, comprehensively assessing the overall performance of higher education institutions across the Asia-Pacific region.
Since 2002, Yuan Ze University had made the development of a bilingual university its central mission, actively promoting bilingual instruction and recruiting international students to create a highly internationalized learning environment and campus culture. Each college established an English-taught undergraduate program, while the university also founded the International College, integrating resources across the institution to provide more comprehensive international education. In 2024, the College of Management was selected as a benchmark college under the Ministry of Education’s Bilingual Education for Students in College (BEST) Program, becoming the only private university in northern Taiwan to receive such recognition. Meanwhile, the College of Electrical and Communication Engineering and the College of Informatics were both chosen as key cultivation colleges, demonstrating their distinct academic strengths and collectively nurturing a new generation of global and interdisciplinary talents.
In terms of international faculty and student diversity, Yuan Ze University had seen significant growth in the number of international students in recent years. Students from 67 countries accounted for approximately 12.87% of the total student population, while the proportion of full-time international faculty members exceeded 10%, the highest among comprehensive universities in Taiwan. To attract outstanding international graduate students and enhance research capacity, the university established the International Graduate Scholarship with strong support from its Board of Directors, providing over NT$64 million in living stipends over the past four years—demonstrating YZU’s firm commitment to cultivating global talent.
At the same time, the university promoted the “1,000 Students Abroad Initiative,” offering subsidies for students to study abroad through exchange programs, dual-degree arrangements, and short-term study tours to broaden their international perspectives. To foster interaction and integration between international and local students, YZU frequently held cross-cultural events that created a welcoming and inclusive campus environment. The first Taoyuan International Student Festival, organized by the Taoyuan City Government, was held at Yuan Ze University, further showcasing the university’s vibrant international atmosphere and cultural diversity.
In addition, Yuan Ze University collaborated with SASTRA University, TATA Group, and Delta Electronics India to jointly cultivate international master’s talents with strong industrial and practical skills, setting a new model for Taiwan–India industry–academia cooperation. The university also partnered with leading domestic enterprises in PCB manufacturing, automation, and accounting to establish specialized professional master’s programs, assisting foreign graduates in securing employment in Taiwan and contributing international talent to local industries.
President Ching-Jong Liao stated that Yuan Ze University aimed to become the most internationally oriented university in Taiwan. Receiving the QS Global Engagement–Performance Improvement Award marked a significant milestone and a strong affirmation of the university’s sustained efforts toward internationalization. This honor represented the collective dedication of all faculty and students over the years. Moving forward, Yuan Ze University would continue to deepen its global engagement, expand international recruitment and industry collaboration, and nurture professionals with both global vision and local impact.
