On May 28, Golden Melody Award-winning singer Waa Wei was invited to Yuan Ze University’s College of Management as a guest speaker at the Career Lecture Series.
Under the theme “Though the Road is Winding, Just Keep Walking,” she shared her journey in music and life, intertwining melodies and stories to offer direction and comfort to students navigating their own paths.
The lecture took place in Yuan Ze University's You-Xiang Hall, which was filled to capacity. Students were deeply moved by Waa Wei’s heartfelt and candid sharing. She openly spoke about moments when vocal strain and personal struggles made her question the value of her dreams. However, she explained that these setbacks ultimately helped her discover her “true self.” Using a metaphor of seashells, she described how pearls are formed when shells are wounded by grains of sand and secrete substances to ease the pain—eventually becoming something beautiful. She encouraged students not to fear failure or hardship, for those experiences would become their own unique pearls.
One of the most touching moments was the interactive Q&A with students. When asked, “How can one regain confidence?” Waa Wei paused thoughtfully before replying:
“When you feel insecure, try to look back and understand the root of that insecurity. Acknowledge its existence, then gradually work on improving it. Once you learn to coexist peacefully with your feelings of inferiority, confidence will no longer be a problem.”
Her gentle and insightful response resonated with everyone in the room, earning warm applause.
Reflecting on her transformation into motherhood, she said, “Becoming a mother made the world softer and made me stronger.” She believed that taking on this new role brought a sense of completeness to her life. Her words touched the audience, offering a sincere glimpse into the emotional balance between career and family that many women navigate.
At the end of the session, amid enthusiastic applause from the host and audience, Waa Wei concluded with a soft a cappella performance. The familiar melody floated through the air, echoing the core message she had shared: “Even a detour can lead to the light.” The moment left a lasting impression on everyone present.
The lecture, themed “Though the Road is Winding, Just Keep Walking,” was more than a career talk. Through her story, Waa Wei gently guided students to reflect on how to live with uncertainty. It felt like a healing dialogue—tender yet powerful.
