From Japan to Taiwan: Saki Sendoda Graduated from Yuan Ze University and Embarked on a New Tech Journey at TSMC

Saki Sendoda, a student from Japan, graduated this year from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Yuan Ze University. In September, she would begin a new chapter in her tech career as she joined TSMC in Kumamoto, Japan, as an equipment engineer.

Reflecting on her journey of studying abroad in Taiwan, Saki not only grew professionally but also deeply experienced the warmth and kindness of Taiwanese people. This international academic experience had opened a whole new chapter in her life.

"The most immediate reason was that the campus was really beautiful, especially the library, which deeply attracted me," Saki said with a smile as she recalled her first impression of Yuan Ze. As she learned more about the university, she discovered that the Department of Electrical Engineering offered strong faculty, rich resources in AI and satellite technologies, and numerous cross-university collaboration opportunities. These factors ultimately convinced her to apply. She also mentioned that many Taiwanese students spoke highly of the department, which further reassured her that she had made the right choice.

Over her three years of study, Saki felt that the quality of education and learning environment at Yuan Ze was even better than her previous experience in Japan. “The courses were very solid, and the professors were always willing to help,” she said. She was particularly impressed by the satellite technology course jointly offered by professors from National Chiao Tung University, National Tsing Hua University, and National Central University, as well as the AI in healthcare course taught by a professor from Far Eastern Memorial Hospital. These cross-university, interdisciplinary experiences not only enriched her academic knowledge but also greatly enhanced her practical skills, laying a solid foundation for her future in AI.

In addition to her academic gains, Saki emphasized that the warmth of Taiwanese people was one of her most unforgettable experiences. “Taiwanese people were passionate and kind, especially the professors and administrative staff in my department. They always helped me when I faced difficulties,” she said. This friendly learning environment helped her quickly adapt to life in a foreign country and allowed her to fully engage in her studies and research.

To Japanese students considering studying in Taiwan, Saki recommended preparing in advance by reviewing physics, calculus, and programming languages, and improving their English skills. This, she believed, would make it easier to transition into university courses and adapt to life in Taiwan.

Looking ahead, Saki planned to work at TSMC in Kumamoto for several years to gain hands-on experience and did not rule out returning to Taiwan in the future. She admitted that before coming to Yuan Ze, she had once felt that fields like AI and robotics were out of reach, but during her time at the university, she gradually built up her confidence. “I believe I can do it,” she said, with determination and hope in her voice.

Saki Sendoda’s story was not just a reflection of personal growth but also a testament to Yuan Ze University’s excellence in international education. Through high-quality teaching, a welcoming environment, and rich interdisciplinary resources, Yuan Ze continued to attract students from around the world to pursue and realize their dreams in Taiwan.
