YZU Department of Electrical Engineering and Far Eastern Memorial Radiology Team Win 21st National Innovation Award

Professor Chen Tun-Yu, Dean of the College of Electrical and Communication Engineering at Yuan Ze University, led the YZU MISLab team in collaboration with Dr. Kuo Kuan-Hung, Director of Radiology at Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, to develop an AI-assisted acute appendicitis diagnostic system. This innovative system earned the "Smart Healthcare and Health Technology Academic Innovation Award" at the 21st National Innovation Awards.

By integrating CT imaging with deep learning technology, the system significantly improves the accuracy and efficiency of diagnosing acute appendicitis, showcasing the outstanding results of academic and clinical collaboration.

Professor Chen emphasized that this groundbreaking achievement is the result of extensive effort and teamwork. He expressed special gratitude to Dr. Kuo for his professional support, from medical image interpretation to the design, training, and validation of the model. The diagnostic system achieved an accuracy rate exceeding 92%, demonstrating its high practical value and marking a new milestone in diagnostic technology for acute abdominal conditions.
