Yuan Ze University’s “Freshman Voyage” orientation was held from September 1 to 5, featuring a five-day program filled with ceremonies, health checks, a club carnival, and an English immersive challenge. The activities warmly welcomed around 3,000 new students to the Yuan Ze family and helped them transition smoothly into university life.
The opening ceremony on September 1 was highlighted by President Ching-Jung Liao’s speech titled “Embracing University Life with Positivity and Proactivity.” He encouraged freshmen to cherish their four years of exploration and growth, describing them as a golden period of development. He emphasized that the future was full of challenges and opportunities, and only with an optimistic mindset could one open the door to success. President Liao reminded students to continuously strengthen two core skills—English and AI—since both language proficiency and digital literacy would be essential competitive advantages in the future. He further stressed that “positivity” and “self-discipline” were indispensable traits for growth. Whether in confidence, courage, responsibility, or time and emotion management, these qualities formed the foundation of success. He expressed his hopes that after four years, students would not only master professional knowledge but also develop strong language and computer skills, becoming “reliable and well-regarded” Yuan Ze graduates.
The ceremony also featured alumnus Chia-Chi Chin, Chairman of Welltronics Technology and recipient of Yuan Ze University’s 5th Distinguished Alumni Award, who shared his success principles. Drawing from his own experience, he reminded students that “what most people say is right may not necessarily be the truth,” urging them to cultivate independent thinking rather than blindly following trends or majority opinions. He pointed out that opportunities favored those who were prepared, encouraging students to pursue continuous learning and self-improvement. Chin emphasized that “invisible competitiveness outweighs expertise,” highlighting that integrity, attention to detail, and diligence were the real keys to long-term success. These soft skills, he added, were crucial to standing out in teamwork and professional development.
The orientation week offered a wide variety of activities. Following the opening ceremony, the “Freshman Survival Guide” sessions helped students quickly become familiar with campus resources. In the afternoon, the “Club Carnival” transformed the campus into a lively stage, with performances by 10 student clubs—including the Rock Band Club, MV Dance Club, and Hip-Hop Dance Club—showcasing the university’s diverse culture and vibrant spirit.
On September 2, activities focused on “Freshman Health Check” and “Department Meet-and-Greet.” Over 50 medical staff members were stationed on campus to conduct comprehensive health examinations for new students, ensuring both their physical and mental well-being. At the same time, academic departments organized welcome sessions where department chairs and faculty members introduced learning resources, academic planning, and career pathways, enhancing faculty-student interaction and a sense of belonging.
The final highlight of the orientation week, “Challenge Your Limits: English Power Up,” took place from September 3 to 5. Organized by the International Language and Culture Center, the program created an immersive English-learning environment. It combined career-oriented elective lectures, an all-English campus challenge, and tailored bridging materials to encourage students to strengthen their language skills through self-directed learning. The lectures invited ten industry experts and distinguished alumni—including an assistant manager from Sinyi Realty, an HR director from Hahow, accountants, lawyers, and entrepreneurs—allowing freshmen to choose sessions based on their interests and expand their horizons. The campus challenge was designed entirely in English, incorporating AI language tools and team collaboration to solve tasks, which not only helped students become familiar with the campus but also inspired enthusiasm for cross-cultural learning.
Yuan Ze University noted that the “Freshman Voyage” was not only a symbolic blessing and guidance for new students but also a call for them to grow through exploration and thrive through challenges—setting sail into the future with courage and confidence.
